Lee Guthrie is a freelance photographer located in Northwest Arkansas. Her work centers on people and their environment, preferring to shoot photos that revolve around the lives of people in her community. She has written a book featuring her collection of photos taken over several years of documenting the Whirling Dervishes, “My Journey with the Whirling Dervishes of America”.
She enjoys teaching the elements of digital photography and what her teacher, David Alan Harvey, taught her about essay photography. Writing is a natural complement to capturing scenes through a lens. Both tell the story; photography holding the scene and words building descriptives of the held image. One thing she is learning is thinking up a scene, holding it and spending time telling the story it contains. It holds true for all writers and essay photographers, she imagines.
